Madder (Rubia tinctorum L.)

Madder is a perennial dye plant that grows in loam. Probably, native of madder is Anatolian. But natural distribution includes the Caucasus, Iran, western Central Asia as far as the north-western Himalayas. The most important for red dye plant and long times of madder was cultivated but new species have been not developed.

Madder grows Manisa, Demirci, Gördes, Konya, Aksaray, Niğde, Kayseri, Kırşehir, Çorum, Yozgat, Malatya, Elazığ, Adıyaman, Amasya, Ankara, Tokat, Kahramanmaraş, Çanakkale, Muğla, etc. in Turkey.

Known as in English madder, German krapp, French granace, Greek Erythrodano and Rhizari and Arabic fou-wa names with red color naturel dyestuff.

According to the dying recipe; red and red shades.
