Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.)

Safflower, also known as carthamus, safflower, asfur and parrot bait is a herbaceous plant. There are types that are one or two years old. Safflower reaching 60 to 70 cm, blossom out yellow, red and orange in between July-September depends on its kind.

In addition to growing safflower as an oil plant; It is also used as a natural dyestuff in various fields such as painting, paper, textile, leather, food coloring and cosmetics.

Safflower is known to be used as a natural dyestuff with the name Safflower in English, Färberdistel or Saflor in German, Cartame in French, Knikos in Greek and As-for in Arabic.
